COMMUNITY Group is delighted to sponsor an innovative Strava challenge this weekend.

Club partner Chinnor RFC Thame and their friendly Oxfordshire rivals Banbury RUFC will compete for the Community Group Cup.

This will see players, members, supporters, staff and the wider local community represent their club using the fitness app.

They have been asked to walk or run over the course of Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22, posting their exercises on Strava. The club which finishes the weekend with the highest number of miles will be crowned the inaugural Community Group Cup champions.

The Strava challenge is the brainchild of Chinnor RFC Thame Head of Community, Matt Goode – who is also Banbury’s Head Coach.

He said: “We are really looking forward to this weekend. We may be in the middle of a second lockdown, but we wanted to inspire people to still remain active, whether that is in preparation for the return of rugby or just to keep fit. To pit Chinnor and Banbury against each other just adds to the fun and it is great to have a bit of healthy competition to look forward to. It is also obviously a great opportunity for both clubs, despite the current circumstances, to still be able to come together and – albeit virtually – work as a team while being physically active. The great thing about this is that anyone can take part, whether you or 5 or 65, and every mile counts towards the clubs’ overall totals. So, let’s all get our walking boots and running shoes on this weekend.”

Both Chinnor and Banbury have created clubs on Strava, which participants will need to join for their activities to count towards the overall totals.

Once you have downloaded the Strava app and created a free account, you will need to go to ‘Explore’, ‘Clubs’ and then search for either ‘Chinnor RFC Thame’ or ‘Banbury RFC’.
