A statement from Head of Delivery, Steve Johns regarding Community Group’s safe delivery during COVID-19 as we continue to support thousands of people aged 5-65+ across the country.

With recent announcements and local and national guidance being continuously updated, we are proud to support clubs and school partners at this time. We are always adapting positively with planning and procedures for our delivery, enabling sessions to go ahead safely. At the forefront of our planning is the safety and wellbeing of both our coaching staff and the students/members of our programmes. As a Community Group team, we are able to manage this with clubs and partner schools efficiently. It is a testament to the great work of our staff delivering programmes that we are able to provide safe learning and coaching environments.

Our Management Team continue to work closely with Heads of Community, identifying priorities for delivery and managing safety measures accordingly in partnership with clubs and schools. Our August Summer Camps ran across the country with individualised and club-specific procedures and safety measures. We implemented bespoke systems, groupings and staffing to ensure that children could turn up and have fun, as well as keeping parents and colleagues informed every step of the way. In total, 350 children were engaged across our sites with fantastic offers from rugby to multi-sports activities.

We have safely returned to school delivery, and schools have been incredibly supportive with procedures to enable such activities. As well as primary and secondary school delivery we have successfully re-launched Walking Rugby across different clubs, and started the Community Sport Health Officer (CSHO) qualification delivery this week. Our College and post-16 partnerships are flourishing with increased numbers year on year. We have started delivering rugby activities for under 5s to enhance the Minis & Juniors offering at all clubs with a safe and secure environment. We are also looking forward to a safe and exciting week at our October Half-Term Camps and are expecting sizable numbers in attendance.

What has been evident throughout this period is the unity and togetherness across our partner clubs and schools. This community spirit will only make us stronger and we thank you all for your support as we continue to provide a safe environment for you all.
